Saudi Arabian gigaproject developer Diriyah Company has awarded the main construction contract to build the Raffles Hotel in the Bujairi district of the Diriyah project in Riyadh. The contract was awarded to the local firm Mobco Civil Construction. The hotel will have a built-up area of about 42,000 square metres and includes 90 branded residences. The mobilisation works are ongoing, and construction is expected to start in November. According to local media reports, Jerry Inzerillo, CEO of Diriyah Company, said the developer is preparing to break ground on eight hotel projects in November. These include the Baccarat Hotel, Corinthia Hotel, Armani Hotel, Fusion Hotel, Rosewood Hotel, Raffles Hotel, Ritz-Carlton and the Address Hotel. Inzerillo made these comments on the sidelines of the Future Investment Initiative event in Riyadh. Diriyah gigaproject Developed by Diriyah Company, the Diriyah masterplan envisages the city as a cultural and lifestyle tourism destination. Located northwest of Riyadh’s city centre, it spans 14 square kilometres and combines 300 years of history, culture and heritage with hospitality facilities. In May, the president of Diriyah Company said he expects the company to award contracts worth $8bn-$9bn this year for the Diriyah project. The company has awarded several significant contracts this year, including two major contracts worth over SR16bn ($4bn). These include an estimated $2bn contract to a joint venture of El-Seif Engineering & Contracting and China State to build the North Cultural District. In late July, Diriyah also awarded another $2.1bn package to a joint venture of local contractor Albawani and Qatar’s Urbacon to construct assets in the Wadi Safar district of the gigaproject. Diriyah is also preparing to award the contract for its Jabal Al-Qurain Avenue cultural district, which is located in the northern district of the Diriyah project.
