POLISH FOOD EXPORTS NO LONGER ON UPWARD TRAJECTORY

As noted by Grzegorz Rykaczewski, agri-food sector analyst at Bank Pekao, September 2024 proved to be a second difficult month for Polish food exports after August, with declines recorded in exports to Germany or the Netherlands, by EUR15m and EUR40m y/y respectively. According to the expert, lower demand in these countries may mean that demand for food products is dwindling not only in Europe, but also globally, which is not a good signal for Polish exporters who rely on diversification of export markets. Producers also point out that Polish food is losing its competitive advantage abroad, with Andrzej Gantner, head of the Polish Federation of Food Industry, attributing this to rising labour costs and growing imports of cheap products from non-EU countries.
