VOLVO TRUCKS LEADS EUROPEAN SAFETY EVALUATION
Volvo Trucks and Renault Trucks achieved remarkable success in the first Euro NCAP heavy truck safety assessment, outperforming competitor Scania, reports Dagens industri. The Volvo FH Aero and FM models secured unprecedented five-star ratings, focusing on critical safety technologies like autonomous braking and lane-keeping systems. CEO Roger Alm emphasised this result confirms Volvo's safety leadership, highlighting a significant competitive advantage in commercial vehicle technology. The evaluation revealed a stark safety landscape: heavy trucks constitute only 6% of road traffic but are involved in one-fifth of fatal accidents. In Sweden, an average of 45 people die annually in heavy truck-related incidents, with over 90% of fatalities involving the other party in collisions. This breakthrough assessment marks a pivotal moment in understanding and improving heavy vehicle safety, potentially transforming market perceptions and setting new industry standards for technological innovation and driver protection.
