PLANZER EXPANDS OPERATIONS WITH ACQUISITION OF ITALIAN LOGISTICS FIRM SIFTE BERT
Dietikon, Switzerland / Lainate, Italy – Swiss logistics company Planzer has announced the acquisition of Sifte Berti, a well-established Italian freight forwarding and warehouse logistics firm. Headquartered in Lainate, near Milan, Sifte Berti operates seven locations across Italy, employing 300 staff, managing 40 vehicles, and overseeing 200,000 square meters of warehouse space.This acquisition marks a significant step in Planzer’s expansion within Italy. Since establishing its Italian subsidiary, Planzer Trasporti S.r.l., in Montano Lucino near Como in 1989, the company has strategically grown through a series of acquisitions, including Como Docks in 2001, Aletti in 2007, Lario Express Spedizioni Internazionali in 2014, and Tirsped in 2022.According to Planzer, the acquisition of Sifte Berti "excellently complements" its existing operations in the region. The Swiss company plans to retain Sifte Berti’s employees, locations, and vehicle fleet, ensuring continuity while enhancing the company's capabilities.Sifte Berti, founded in 1969 by Franco Berti in Lainate, has grown into a significant player in Italian logistics, with additional sites in Vercelli (Piedmont) and Pomezia (south of Rome). Three of its seven locations are company-owned, forming the backbone of its extensive operations.Now 80 years old, co-founder Franco Berti, along with his daughter Francesca Berti, has passed the leadership of the company to Planzer. This transition fulfills the Bertis’ desire for a succession plan that secures the future of the business.In a statement, Planzer emphasized that this acquisition reinforces its network and service portfolio in Italy, enabling the company to provide even more comprehensive logistics solutions to its customers.
