The Ministry of Investment has projected that Indonesia's economic growth will reach 8% by 2027. In the short term, the economy is expected to grow by 6.8% next year, with a rise to over 7% by 2026. Edy Junaedi, the Deputy for Investment Control at the Ministry, stated that achieving 8% growth will be possible when Indonesia meets its investment target of IDR 2,684 trillion. The government aims to realize IDR 1,650 trillion in investments this year and projects IDR 1,906 trillion in investment for 2025. This projection is based on simulations developed in collaboration with the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas). Economic growth of 8% will be gradual, with expectations to reach this target by 2027, contingent on a consistent 17.43% growth in investment absorption between 2025 and 2027. More than half of these investments are expected to come from foreign sources, with the total investment target for 2025-2029 reaching IDR 13,528 trillion. This influx of investment is projected to create 3.4 million jobs over the next five years.The projected job creation aligns with the government's roadmap for the downstream development of 28 key commodities through 2040, with mining being a major contributor due to its labor-intensive nature. Edy noted that 60% of the commodities in the roadmap are related to the mining sector, which has the potential to attract investments of up to US$ 816 billion by 2040. Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto believes that an 8% growth rate is achievable, pointing to Indonesia's historical economic performance, including an average growth of 7.3% from 1986 to 1997 and a peak of 8.2% in 1995. To achieve this growth, the government plans to improve performance in key growth sectors, diversify sources of growth, and encourage technological adaptation and innovation.
