Indonesia's digital economy is projected to reach a Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of USD 90 billion, or approximately IDR 1,416 trillion, in 2024, marking a 13 percent increase compared to 2023, which had a GMV of USD 80 billion. According to the latest e-Conomy SEA 2024 report compiled by Google, Temasek, and Bain & Company, this growth makes Indonesia the largest digital economy in Southeast Asia. "The strong 13 percent year-on-year growth shows that Indonesia remains the largest digital economy in Southeast Asia, and it is expected to reach around USD 90 billion by the end of this year," said Veronica Utami, Country Director of Google Indonesia, at the report launch event in Jakarta. In 2022, Indonesia recorded a GMV of USD 76 billion and grew by 6 percent in 2023 to reach USD 80 billion. With a USD 10 billion increase this year, Indonesia's digital economy is demonstrating significant growth.E-commerce is the largest contributor to Indonesia's digital economy, with a GMV of USD 65 billion, an 11 percent growth from the previous year. This growth has been driven by innovations in major e-commerce platforms, such as the introduction of video commerce features to enhance the shopping experience. Video commerce now accounts for about 20 percent of the total GMV in e-commerce this year, a significant increase from 5 percent in 2022. In addition to e-commerce, the online travel agent (OTA) sector saw the highest growth, with a total GMV of USD 9 billion, while online transportation and food delivery contributed USD 3 billion and USD 6 billion, respectively.
