Kazakhstan considers expanding oil exports via Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline to 20 million tonnesKazakhstan is evaluating the potential to expand its oil exports via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline, with plans to increase the volume from 1.5 million tonnes to 20 million tonnes per year, according to Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev.“For 2024, we have scheduled the transportation of 1.5 million tonnes of Kazakh oil via the BTC pipeline. However, we are assessing the feasibility of scaling up exports to 20 million tonnes annually,” Satkaliyev said during a government session in the Majilis on Monday.The minister emphasized that both Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are keen to increase oil shipments along the BTC route.As part of its strategy to diversify oil export routes, Kazakhstan began utilizing the BTC pipeline in 2023. KazMunayGas and Azerbaijan's SOCAR signed a contract for the annual transportation of 1.5 million tonnes, with exports officially commencing in April 2023. The same volume is projected for 2024.
