Majilis has approved in first reading draft Water CodeThe Majilis, the lower chamber of Kazakhstan’s parliament, approved on Wednesday a draft Water Code in the first reading."The new Water Code, which was proposed, takes into account international best practices and is aimed at the protection of ecosystems through rational management of water resources. For the first time ever, the law defines the term "water security", which also implies protection of the population from the risk of a water shortage and pollution of the water bodies," Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurzhan Nurzhigitov said in the Majilis.The draft Code provides for a gradual transition to water recycling. The industrial water consumers will be required to adopt five-year plans for water recycling solutions within two years after the adoption of the new Water Code."A lot of attention will be paid to protection of the water resources. The river inspection departments will be authorized to conduct investigations in order to tighten the requirements for protection of the water resources, to prevent their illegal use and to combat the black water market," the minister said.
