Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (BESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia revealed that the government will build an ethanol and methanol industry worth US$1.2 billion or equivalent to Rp19.03 trillion. The factory will be built in Bojonegoro, East Java. Meanwhile, the construction of the factory is inseparable from President Prabowo Subianto's instructions to boost biodiesel production , a mixture of diesel oil with biofuel (BBN) by 50%, aka B50. Methanol is one of the raw materials used to make biodiesel. "Because 80% of methanol as a mixture of biodiesel is imported. So we will build one in Bojonegoro with an industry of approximately US$1.2 billion in investment," said Bahlil at his residence in South Jakarta, Wednesday (11/27/2024). He explained that the development of B50 is in line with Prabowo's vision, namely energy self-sufficiency. Bahlil said that to achieve the target, biodiesel development will be accelerated along with oil lifting.According to Bahlil, if Indonesia has succeeded in developing B50, the country will no longer import diesel. The Prabowo government itself will test B50 next year before it is implemented in 2027. Deputy for Food and Agribusiness Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Dida Gardera said that the implementation of the road test will be accelerated so that the implementation of 50% biodiesel will be carried out no later than 2028.
