INDONESIAN TEXTILE ENTREPRENEURS REJECT VAT INCREASE TO 12%

The Indonesian Textile Association (API) rejected the government's plan to increase the Value Added Tax (PPN) to 12%. This policy is planned to be implemented on January 1, 2025. API General Chairman Jemmy Kartiwa Sastraatmadja assessed that the government's policy to increase VAT to 12% next year is not the right step. Especially considering that the world has been hit by uncertainty in recent times. "The main thing is, one more VAT. We have to push this 12% VAT, I think it is not appropriate to apply at this time," said Jemmy in the Extraordinary Member Forum (ALB) Pre-Rapimnas Kadin 2024 at the Mulia Hotel, Jakarta, Saturday (11/30/2024). In addition, he also commented on the government's plan to provide stimulus or social assistance (bansos) to the community in exchange for an increase in VAT. According to him, the assistance is not needed. For information, the policy of increasing VAT to 12% is stated in Law Number 7 of 2021 concerning the Harmonization of Taxation Regulations (HPP Law). It means, the policy was formulated 3 years ago. The plan for the implementation of this social assistance was previously revealed by the Chairman of the Indonesian National Economic Council (DEN) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan. He said, the assistance will be given to people affected by VAT, both small and middle classes.Source:https://finance.detik.com/berita-ekonomi-bisnis/d-7664491/pengusaha-tekstil-tolak-kenaikan-ppn-jadi-12 (ICE GIACARTA)
