State energy company PT Pertamina claims that the Balikpapan Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) project will bring out the most modern refinery in Indonesia which is targeted for completion in 2025. Wiko Migantoro, Deputy President Director of Pertamina, said that this refinery development is such an important project because it will increase the refinery capacity by 100 thousand barrels per hour (bpd) from the previous 260 thousand bpd to 360 thousand bpd. “Next year we hope that the refinery in Balikpapan can increase its capacity to an additional 100 thousand barrels of oil per day. This new refinery is important because it will also increase the yield of valuable products,” Wiko said on Tuesday, December 3, 2024. Hermansyah Y. Nasroen, Corporate Secretary of PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (PT KPI) said that although the Balikpapan RDMP project will be fully completed in 2025, it has managed to achieve the maximum capacity target of 360 thousand bpd in a trial operation recently. “The installed capacity is 300 thousand bpd for Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) IV since mid-May,” Hermansyah told CNBC Indonesia, on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.
