TOPIAN INAUGURATES FIRST HIGH-TECH GREENHOUSE IN NEOM’S OXAGON

The state-of-the-art greenhouse is designed to pilot sustainable, localised food production using advanced technological solutions. As part of Topian’s mission to redefine food production, the facility aims to optimise productivity and crop quality while minimising resource inputs, particularly water and energy. Speaking at the inauguration, Dr Juan Carlos Motamayor, CEO of Topian, said, “This first set of high-tech greenhouses enables us to control the climate for plant growth in an environmentally friendly manner, producing almost 4,000 tons of fruit and vegetables. By developing AI-driven predictive models, we aim to create more efficient greenhouses across the region. This initiative is a significant step toward enhancing regional and national food security while addressing the challenges of climate change.” The greenhouse leverages advanced cooling and radiation control technologies, supported by NEOM’s robust photovoltaic infrastructure. This approach ensures minimal energy and water consumption while optimising growing conditions. Vishal Wanchoo, CEO of Oxagon, added, “This pilot showcases a fully localised ‘farm-to-table’ supply chain, delivering sustainably produced ingredients for NEOM residents and hospitality partners. Together with Topian, we are redefining the role of clean technology in transforming industries.” The greenhouse will serve as a testbed for innovative agricultural practices. The initial phase focuses on climate modulation, crop suitability trials, and automation. The pilot will evaluate cooling efficiency and test a variety of crops, including lettuce, tomatoes, and strawberries, with a focus on taste, colour, and texture to enhance the consumer experience. Topian’s collaboration with Van der Hoeven, a leading Dutch horticultural technology firm, underlines the international partnership driving this project. The insights gained from the facility will inform future large-scale greenhouse operations, to scale sustainable food production in arid regions worldwide.   For registration as a supplier: https://www.neom.com/en-us/our-business/suppliers   (ICE RIYADH)
