ROYAL COMMISSION FOR ALULA OPENS 7-STAR HOTEL IN SAUDI’S FIRST UNESCO SITE

Set amidst the ancient Nabataean site of Hegra, Saudi Arabia’s inaugural UNESCO World Heritage Site, this property marks the Kingdom’s first seven-star hotel. It offers an exquisite fusion of heritage, luxury, and cultural immersion. RCU emphasises sustainability as a cornerstone of the development, adhering to its Sustainability Charter for AlUla. The project minimises environmental impact through a light-touch tourism approach and uses locally sourced materials, creating at least 120 new jobs in the process. The boutique hotel boasts 35 meticulously crafted guest rooms that harmonise with the natural surroundings, incorporating historic structures like the Hegra railway station into its design. Lime-based materials were used to restore masonry, ensuring breathability and conservation. Dining options include Prima Classe, located in the railway station with a restored 1906 locomotive centrepiece; The Fort Restaurant, nestled within historic Hegra Fort’s walls; and The Water Basin Restaurant, offering sunken seating with panoramic views of Hegra’s desert landscape. Additional amenities include the Chedi Spa, featuring six treatment rooms and hydrothermal spaces, as well as a fitness center and pool housed in transformed mud-brick villas. Guests are greeted with curated experiences like traditional welcome drinks, Nabataean language engagement, and bespoke tours, ensuring an authentic connection to AlUla’s rich culture. Axel Jarosch, Vice President of Hotels & Resorts at RCU, said: “The Chedi Hegra will stand as a model for authentic luxury, blending modern hospitality with the timeless heritage of AlUla. This project embodies the vision of our Journey Through Time masterplan, offering travellers an unforgettable experience in one of the world’s most awe-inspiring locations.” As General Manager Mahmoud Sakr notes: “The Chedi Hegra offers visitors the chance to explore Hegra’s wonders, experience exceptional hospitality, and connect deeply with the soul of this extraordinary region.” From exploring wildlife reserves to witnessing falcon shows and Bedouin expeditions, The Chedi Hegra promises a luxurious yet culturally immersive escape, inviting travellers to embark on a one-of-a-kind journey through time.   For registration as a supplier: https://www.rcu.gov.sa/en/business-in-alula/supplier-portal   (ICE RIYADH)
