KUWAIT AWARDS CONTRACT FOR PETROLEUM INDUSTRIAL ZONE

The state-owned national oil company Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) has awarded a contract for a feasibility study for a planned petroleum industrial zone to US-based Boston Consulting Group.The 12-month contract is worth KD839,000 ($2.7m), according to a statement released by KPC.Kuwait approved plans to build its first major oil industrial zone in September last year.The project is being developed in Kuwait’s Southern Al-Ahmadi Governorate.The zone is designed for oil and gas industries as part of Kuwait’s economic diversification plans and is expected to create 1,300 jobs, as well as contributing nearly $4bn to Kuwait’s GDP, according to KPC.In October, KPC confirmed that it plans to spend $410bn on its long-term energy strategy.Bader Ebrahim Al-Attar, KPC’s managing director of planning and finance, said the company plans to spend the money up to 2050.The strategy involves raising KPC’s overall oil production capacity to 4 million barrels a day by 2035.
