Brock University's Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute (CCOVI) is leading a $2-million project, supported by the Ontario Research Fund, to bolster Ontario’s $5.5-billion grape and wine industry against challenges like pests, plant viruses, and climate change. The initiative, called VINO Solutions, integrates cutting-edge research and industry partnerships to develop virus-free grapevines, advanced pest management strategies, and climate-resilient fermentation techniques. With 11 subprojects, including state-of-the-art genetic therapies, AI virus detection, and new yeast development, the project aims to enhance resilience and innovation in wine production.
