Kazakhstan targets foreign investors for cross-border logistics hubsKazakhstan’s Prime Minister, Olzhas Bektenov, has tasked government agencies with attracting foreign investors to develop a series of cross-border logistics hubs aimed at boosting economic growth and improving trade efficiency.Speaking at a government meeting, Bektenov stressed the need for international investor participation and efficient hub management. "The Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Integration, together with regional administrations, have been instructed to create a pool of potential foreign investors for each hub and to explore their involvement. Establishing effective management conditions and continuously populating the hubs with promising projects are essential," he stated. The initiative includes plans for five major hubs: Karasu and Ak-Tilek Industrial Trade and Logistics Complexes (Kazakhstan-Kyrgyzstan border); Central Asia Industrial Cooperation Center (Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan border); Eurasia Cross-Border Trade Center (Uralsk, near the Russian border); Khorgos Hub (Kazakhstan-China border); and Caspian Hub (Kuryk seaport).Government agencies are also responsible for preparing vital infrastructure for the hubs, including energy, water supply, transportation links, and the expansion of special economic zones. Bektenov emphasized the significant economic potential of these hubs, which are designed to reduce cargo transit times, increase industrial production, boost tax revenue, and attract investments and technology.Bektenov cited specific benefits, such as a 20-million-tonne increase in railway capacity at the Central Asia hub and a surge in container handling at Aktau Port, from 92,000 to 300,000 units annually."These hubs aim to create a unified trade and transport network with our regional partners, strengthening economic ties and fostering strategic relationships," Bektenov concluded.
