FRANCE PROVIDES €150MLN LOAN TO PROPEL JORDAN'S PUBLIC SECTOR MODERNIZATION ROAD
Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Zeina Toukan and Regional Director of the Regional Director of the French Development Agency (AFD) for the Middle East, Yves Guicquéro, on Thursday inked a development policy loan agreement to support implementation program of Jordan's Public Sector Modernization Roadmap.Under the agreement, the AFD provides an amount of €150 million to support the sector through the Kingdom's general budget.According to a ministry statement, the program focuses on three relevant priorities, aimed to strengthen governance, support restructuring of some public institutions, improve human resources management system and develop institutional capacities, which would achieve an "empowered and effective" public sector.Speaking during the signing ceremony, Toukan expressed Jordan's appreciation to the French government, represented by the FDA, for its "continuous" support to the Kingdom, as a "key" development partner over the years, valuing the "deep-rooted" bilateral relations with France.French Ambassador to Jordan, Alexis Le CourGrandmaison, stated that his country's government is "proud" to keep pace with modernization of Jordan's public sector, in line with His Majesty King Abdullah II's vision.Meanwhile, Guicquéro indicated that this funding comes within the AFD's support to help Jordan overcome institutional, economic and social challenges.The agency announced a grant within the program's framework for technical support and capacity building amounting to €1 million.The move also comes within the financing ceiling provided by the 5th memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with the agency, which frames joint development cooperation for the years (2023-2026).
