JORDAN, FRANCE COLLABORATE ON TEXTILE WASTE MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR FORMER
The Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC) took part in the Fifth Arab-French Economic Summit, which was held in the French capital, Paris, aimed to strengthen Arab-French economic relations.According to a JCC statement Saturday, the summit was attended by heads and members of the boards of Arab and French chambers of commerce, representatives of economic and financial institutions, official figures and businesspeople from both sides.Board Member, Nabil Khatib, who headed the JCC delegation, stressed that the Jordanian economy is based on the Economic Modernization Vision (2023-2033), aimed at achieving sustainable growth and improving the quality of life.In his working paper, Khatib also noted the vision is based on unleashing economic potential and enhancing sustainability by launching an "effective" partnership between the Kingdom's public and private sectors.Jordan, he said, enjoys an "attractive" investment environment and a "qualified and trained" workforce and trade agreements with various global economic blocs, which makes it a "promising" destination for investment.Khatib reviewed the key investment opportunities available in the Kingdom's sectors of infrastructure, water, energy, industry, transportation, and tourism, adding that Jordan has maintained its political and economic stability despite regional challenges.Jordanian economy recorded "positive" indicators, as the gross domestic product grew by 2.2% during the first half of 2024, and the trade balance deficit decreased by 3%, while remittances from Jordanian expatriates went up by 3.2%, he stated.Regarding trade relations with France, Khatib pointed out that Jordanian exports to France amounted to about $20 million last year, while the trade balance recorded a deficit of $353 million.Khatib referred to untapped export opportunities for the French market estimated at about $38 million, concentrated in the sectors of chemical industries, clothing, pharmaceuticals, and jewelry.Khatib noted Jordan continues to attract investments, thanks to its political and security stability, and the provision of a stimulating business environment for investors, calling on French businesspeople to take advantage of "promising" investment opportunities in the Kingdom.
