Cargo transportation via TITR grew by 63% to 4.1 mln tonnes in 11M - Kazakh government(dateline in the 1st para corrected)The volume of cargo transportation through the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) rose by 63% in January-November 2024 to reach 4.1 million tonnes compared with the same period of the previous year, the press service of Kazakhstan’s government said in a Monday press release.“The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route continues demonstrating a steady growth, with its throughput capacity reaching 6 million tonnes a year, including 100,000 TEU containers. In the eleven months, freight traffic by TITR grew by 63% to total 4.1 million tonnes, container traffic soared by 160% to reach 50,500 TEU containers,” the press release says.A coordination center for development and expansion of the TITR’s infrastructure was created earlier this year. The center is also tasked with increasing the competitiveness of the TITR and reducing the delivery time between Europe and Asia to 15 days, according to the press release.The partners of the expansion project include Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, China and other countries.TITR is an international transport corridor that runs through China, Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and further to Turkey and European countries. The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway is part of the corridor. The annual throughput capacity of the route is expected to reach 10 million tonnes of cargoes in 2025. (ICE ALMATY)
