CROATIA: INFLATION UP 2.8% IN NOVEMBER 2023, LED BY RESTAURANT AND HOTEL PRICES
According to the second estimate by the State Bureau of Statistics (DZS) on Monday, inflation in November 2023, measured by the consumer price index (CPI), rose to 2.8% year-on-year, marking the second consecutive month of acceleration, with consumer prices increasing by 0.4% compared to October, Croatian media report. The largest annual price increases were recorded in restaurants and hotels (10.1%) and various goods and services (6.7%), while energy prices decreased by 0.5% year-on-year but rose by 2.3% monthly.After October, which saw inflation rise by 2.2%, breaking the months-long trend of slowing annual price growth, November marked the second consecutive month where inflation accelerated.Measured by the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), prices in November were, on average, 4% higher compared to November 2023, while compared to October, they remained at the same level.When observed by main groups of the European Classification of Individual Consumption according to Purpose (ECOICOP), the largest annual increase in consumer prices was recorded in restaurants and hotels, at 10.1%.Various goods and services increased by 6.7%, education by 5.3%, health by 5.2%, food and non-alcoholic beverages by 4.8%, recreation and culture by 4.7%, alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 3.4%, and housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels by 2.3%. The annual increase in prices was mitigated by the drop in communication prices by 6.4%, transportation by 0.5%, and clothing and footwear by 0.1%. On a monthly basis, the largest increase was seen in housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels, with a 2.1% rise.According to the main components of the index (special aggregates), on an annual basis, service prices increased by 5.1%, food, beverages, and tobacco by 4.6%, and non-energy industrial goods by 0.4%, while energy prices decreased by 0.5%.On a monthly basis, energy prices rose by 2.3%, while food, beverages, and tobacco increased by 0.2%.
