KUWAIT SETS JANUARY BID DEADLINE FOR WEST GAS PROJECT
State-owned upstream operator Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) has extended the bid deadline for a project to develop a gas sweetening and sulphur recovery facility in West Kuwait.The project, which has an estimated budget of $360m, has a new bid deadline of 7 January 2025.The previous deadline was 17 December 2024.The deadline has already been extended several times. Previous bid deadlines that have been extended include 5 November, 26 November, and 10 December.Companies from China, the US and Kuwait had shown interest in winning the contract. These included China’s Jereh, US-based SLB and Kuwait’s Spetco.The project will use the build-operate-transfer (BOT) contract model and has been split into two parts.In instructions provided to contractors, they were told that the two stages would be performed independently.The execution stage will include:LicensingDesignEngineeringHealth, safety and environment servicesProject managementSupplyShipmentProcurementConstructionTestingMechanical completionPre-commissioningCommissioningStabilisationPerformance testing of the facilityThe operation and maintenance stage will include:Operation and maintenance of the facilityPerformance of all associated safety, quality control and environmental protection servicesAll other inherent and related obligationsLast month, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), KOC’s parent company, confirmed that it plans to spend $410bn on its long-term energy strategy.Bader Ebrahim Al-Attar, KPC’s managing director of planning and finance, said his company plans to spend the money until 2050.The strategy involves raising KPC’s overall oil production capacity to 4 million barrels a day by 2035.
