Kazakh parliament ratifies agreement on French Development Agency GroupThe Senate, the upper chamber of Kazakhstan’s parliament, adopted on Thursday the Law on the Ratification of the Agreement Between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the French Republic on the Operation of the French Development Agency Group (Agence Française de Developpement) in the Republic of Kazakhstan."The goal of the Agreement is to create a legal, tax, and financial framework for the operation of the French Development Agency Group. The Agency provides assistance to developing countries. Currently, the Agency is implementing about 4,000 projects in 115 countries," said Bibigul Zheksenbay, a member of the Senate’s Committee on International Relations, Defense and Security.The French Development Agency finances projects with long-term loans that have a repayment period of up to 15 years. The loans can be given to both private companies and state companies, according to Zheksenbay.The Agency mainly finances infrastructure projects in the energy, transport and public utilities sectors, she added."The Agency is revieing a pool of projects, which includes water supply and irrigation projects. The law will allow the Agency to provide Kazakhstan technical assistance in order to support its economic and social development," the senator said.The Agreement was concluded on November 1, 2023 in Astana.
