Production across TV, film, and online platforms reached €2.04 billion, a sharp increase from €1.8 billion in 2022 and nearly double the €1.06 billion recorded in 2017. Film production experienced the fastest growth, with revenues rising 21%, compared to 8% for TV and 16% for video-on-demand. A record 354 films, including national and international titles, were produced in Italy in 2023, up from 314 the previous year. Total employment in the sector grew by 3.5%, while the industry’s total revenues exceeded €12 billion, led by the TV industry at €8.2 billion.Online platforms generated €2.8 billion, and cinema exhibition brought in €510 million, with titles like There’s Still Tomorrow performing well. Chiara Sbarigia, president of the APA, attributed the sector’s growth to increased content demand and tax credits, though reforms to Italy’s tax credit system may slow film production in 2024. The APA’s findings were unveiled at the MIA film and TV market in Rome, held from October 14-18. (ICE TORONTO)
