At the RAK Energy Summit, key initiatives were revealed,such as a goal to reduce electricity consumption by 30%, decrease water use by 20%,and achieve 20% renewable energy by 2040. A standout project is the proposed 5GWpumped hydroelectric center, which would be the world’s largest, leveraging the region’smountainous geography.RAK is also exploring new energy resources, such as carbon dioxide storage throughmineralization in local ophiolite rocks, a method that can permanently sequester CO2.Additionally, the emirate is considering natural hydrogen production through chemicalreactions in the same rocks, a potential clean fuel source.
