JABBOUR'S LEBANESE LEGACY FINDS HOME IN PARIS

In the bustling commercial district of Levallois-Perret, bordering Paris's 17th arrondissement, the grocery caterer Jabbour by Kachmir hums with activity.  The logo features a cheerful and friendly baker, paying homage to Lebanese tradition. Inside, a vibrant display of mezzes (starters), traditional Lebanese flatbreads and sandwiches fills the space, while a few tables near the oven encourage spontaneous conversations among customers. The energy of Elie Obeid, the shop's charismatic owner, is infectious. On the shelves, iconic products like Unica biscuits, pistachios and nostalgic Jello mixes share space with olives and other staples. These aren't high-end items but rather affordable, nostalgic and traditional products that transport customers back to their childhood memories.  His first idea of a grocery store started at the age of nine while successfully venturing into commerce by buying food from wholesalers to resell in his parents' garden in Ain al-Rummaneh.  Obeid moved to France in 2011 with only 100 dollars and started from scratch. Today, Jabbour captures the atmosphere of a small dekkéné (convenience store in Lebanon). You find the most common and iconic products of the country: Najjar coffee and Super Brasil, different biscuits, kaak, Abido spices, Almaza beer, local brand canned goods and artisanal products. Its clientele is diverse, Levalloisians but also Lebanese from all over Île-de-France, who turn to them for events. They also offer deliveries of fresh products, which is very successful, especially the homemade labneh.  However, due to the market saturation in the region, he is setting up a project to open a second Jabbour in the south of France, as the demand is very strong there.  For Obeid, the most important thing is to remember the moments when he was in need, and he hasn't forgotten a single moment. Those memories, often tinged with melancholy, have become the driving force behind his work. It is also another reason for him to try to help those who are in need. (ICE BEIRUT)
