TAX REVENUE INCREASES BY JD243 MILLION IN 2024

The Income and Sales Tax Department reported a total revenue collection of JD6.084 billion in 2024, reflecting a JD243 million increase from 2023, which saw JD5.841 billion collected, marking a 4 percent rise year-over-year.Director General Hussam Abu Ali stated that sales tax collections accounted for JD4.288 billion of the total in 2024, compared to JD4.077 billion in the previous year, a 5 percent increase amounting to JD210 million.Meanwhile, income tax collections reached JD1.796 billion, up JD33 million, or 2 percent, from JD1.763 billion in 2023.Abu Ali credited the rise in collections to taxpayers' voluntary compliance in timely filing and payment of their tax obligations. He emphasized that this culture of compliance underscores taxation as a national duty and a legal responsibility, significantly contributing to the department's success in achieving its goals. He highlighted that the increase occurred despite challenges such as the global decline in fertilizer prices, which impacted income tax revenues in the mining sector, and regional geopolitical events. He attributed the department’s success to improved auditing, inspection, and tax collection efficiency driven by modern technologies, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and ongoing reform initiatives. The department’s proactive measures to combat tax evasion and avoidance, as well as its efforts to negotiate settlements with taxpayers while considering their financial situations, also played a critical role in bolstering revenue, he added.
