SAUDI ARABIA ANNOUNCES $2.4BN LIVESTOCK CITY
Saudi Arabia has announced that it will build an estimated $2.4bn livestock city in the kingdom's Eastern Province. The facility will be built over an area of 11 million square metres (sqm) in the Hafar Al-Batin area of the Eastern Province. The project was announced on the sidelines of the Hafar Al-Batin Investment Forum 2025. The project will be developed by the Hafar Al-Batin Livestock and Marketing Association. According to the reports in the local media, the facility will be able to "meet 30% of Saudi Arabia’s red meat demand and create over 13,000 job opportunities for local residents." The facilities include advanced livestock pens, feed factories, a veterinary hospital and meat production plants. The report added that the facility will be fully powered by renewable energy. The facility will have a production capacity of about 140,000 litres of milk, 100 tons of feed per hour and 1.5 million sqm of leather annually. The facility will also have an automated slaughterhouse spanning 170,000 sqm. According to GlobaData, the construction industry is expected to record annual average growth of 5.2% from 2025 to 2028, supported by the government’s focus on boosting tourism, coupled with investments in commercial, energy, housing, and infrastructure projects. The industrial construction sector is expected to grow by 4.2% in real terms in 2024, before registering an annual average growth rate of 3.3% between 2025 and 2028, supported by the government’s aim to increase the number of domestic industrial establishments from 8,800 in 2019 to 36,000 in 2035.
