WARSAW AIRPORT SETS RECORD WITH NEARLY 21.3 MLN PASSENGERS SERVED LAST YEAR
For the first time in its history, the Chopin Airport in Warsaw achieved a historic milestone by serving close to 21.3 million passengers within a single year in 2024, the airport has announced.According to the Tuesday statement, the Chopin Airport served 21,283,973 passengers last year and in December alone passenger traffic increased by 17 percent year-on-year, with passengers most often travelling to London, Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Brussels.It added that over 19.6 million people used international routes and 1.6 million - domestic ones.In 2023, almost 18.5 million passengers used the Polish capital's airport, the statement said.The airport also said that August of last year was the best month in terms of the number of passengers checked in - 2.1 million people, and that January was the weakest with 1.3 million travellers handled.The record was also broken in the tonnage of cargo handled, which last year amounted to over 117,000 tonnes, an increase of 13 percent year-on-year.Chopin Airport is the largest airport in Poland and a hub for the national carrier PLL LOT. Airlines such as Lufthansa, British Airways, KLM, Emirates, and Wizz Air also operate from there. (ICE VARSAVIA)
