EUROSTAT: POLAND IS THE FIFTH LARGEST CHEESE PRODUCER IN THE EU
Poland is the fifth largest cheese producer in the European Union, according to Eurostat. Germany remains at the top of the ranking, followed by France, Italy and the Netherlands.The first five countries – Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Poland – account for almost 72% of all EU production. While 10.6 million tonnes of cheese were produced in the EU in 2023, 7.6 million tonnes came from these five countries alone.According to data from the European Statistical Office, 976 thousand tons of cheese was produced in Poland in 2023, which means an increase of 50 thousand tons compared to 2022. Cheese production in our country has been growing year by year for over a decade. In 2012, it was 721 thousand tons.Eurostat data includes all types of cheese recognised in the EU. (ICE VARSAVIA)
