Trade turnover between Kazakhstan and China rose 9% in 2024 to $43.8 blnTrade turnover between Kazakhstan and China increased by 9% in 2024 to $43.8 billion, the government’s press service said in a Monday press release following the meeting between Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Kazakhstan Han Chunlin."The sides praised the existing high level of trade and economic partnership between the two countries. In 2024, bilateral trade turnover increased by 9% to reach $43.8 billion," the press release says.In order to double the volume of mutual trade, the governments of Kazakhstan and China are working towards unlocking the existing potential and towards diversifying the trade turnover. Kazakhstan also intends to increase the grain export to China, according to the press release.Bektenov and Chunlin also discussed joint investment projects."To date, as many as 62 Kazakh-Chinese projects worth $8.7 billion have been implemented, with 11,000 new work places created; 55 projects worth $13.5 billion are being carried out, with 17,400 work places to be created. All in all, there are 222 joint investment projects for a total value of over $60.5 billion," the press release says.The sides also paid attention to strengthening cooperation in transportation. According to Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, the national railway operator, in the eleven months of 2024 the volume of freight traffic between Kazakhstan and China increased by 13% to 29.3 million tonnes. The two countries plan to build new checkpoints and modernize the existing ones on the Kazakh-Chinese border, and to develop freight traffic by water."Following the meeting, the sides confirmed their intention to strengthen partnership and to step up joint work in all key areas of bilateral cooperation," the press release says.
