Kazakhstan should build modern coal-fired power plants to replace old ones - TokayevPresident of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has said that the republic should build modern coal-fired power plants to replace the outdated power plants."Our strategic course to achieve carbon neutrality remains unchanged. However, we should approach the goal more rationally. We need to manage our natural resources and realize the existing potential in a most effective way, so we need to replace the existing power plants that were built using now outdated technologies with innovative coal-fired power plants,” Tokayev said at an expanded meeting of the government on Tuesday. The head of state mentioned China and South Korea that operate new-generation coal-fired power plants with a minimum level of emissions."Unfortunately, the coal-fired power plant near Lake Balkhash was never built. Otherwise, it could have become a large source of electricity for our country," he added. (ICE ALMATY)
