Kazakh parliament ratifies amendments to EAEU agreement allowing for payment of import duties in rublesThe Senate, the upper chamber of Kazakhstan’s parliament, approved on Thursday the Law on the Ratification of the Protocol on Amendments to the Agreement on the Eurasian Economic Union Dated May 29, 2014 Concerning the Payment of Import Duties Between the Member States of the Eurasian Economic Union."The Protocol will make amendments to the Agreement on the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) to create a temporary mechanism for the payment of customs duties with the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus in Russian rubles for a period of two years.“Such a mechanism will have to be introduced because payments in USD have become impossible due to the sanctions imposed on the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus," the head of Kazakhstan’s National Bank Timur Suleimenov said earlier.However, the mechanism for distributing the customs duties to the budgets of the member states will not change. Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan will continue distributing and accepting the customs duties in USD as before.The Protocol was signed by the president of the states participating in the EAEU in November 2023.The document was sent to the president of Kazakhstan for signature.
