Kazakhstan and Poland resolve dispute over delayed TCO tank carsKazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy has announced the successful resolution of a dispute involving the delayed customs clearance of Tengizchevroil (TCO) tank cars at the Polish border."Between January 4 and January 15, 2025, Polish customs officials held up dozens of TCO tank cars for extended inspections, delaying the shipment to Polish recipients. The delays were reportedly due to concerns over the origin of the cargo," according to the Ministry of Energy."To address the issue, representatives from Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Energy held talks with their Polish counterparts. The negotiations proved successful, and by January 26, 2025, Polish customs began clearing the tank cars, allowing them to proceed to their final destinations," the Ministry said.Earlier media reports revealed that over 100 tank cars carrying liquefied hydrocarbon gas (LHG) from TCO had been stranded at the Belarus-Poland border. The cargo, produced at Kazakhstan’s massive Tengiz oil field, faced scrutiny due to suspicions about its origin. The Tengiz field, located in Kazakhstan’s Atyrau region, is one of the largest oil fields in the world, with estimated reserves of 3.1 billion tons. It is operated by Tengizchevroil LLP, a consortium that includes Chevron (50%), ExxonMobil (25%), Kazakhstan’s state-owned KazMunayGas (20%), and Russia’s LUKOIL (5%). (ICE ALMATY)
