Inflation in Kazakhstan at 1.1% in Jan, annual inflation at 8.9% (Part 2)Inflation in Kazakhstan came in at 1.1% in January 2025, the Bureau of National Statistics of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms said.The annual inflation (January 2025 to January 2024) amounted to 8.9%.In January 2025, the prices for food products increased by 5.8% compared with the same month of 2024, the prices for non-food items grew by 8.4% and for services by 13.8%.In the reporting month, the tariffs on drinking water supply jumped by 43.2% year over year, water disposal services by 26.1%, central heating by 23.1%, hot water supply by 21.3%, electricity by 18.9%, domestic gas supply by 12% and garbage removal by 10.3%.Housing rental went up 15.3%, all-inclusive recreation services - 26%, communications - 16.8%, health care - 12%, hairdressing and personal services - 11.9%, vehicle maintenance and repair - 11.4%, catering - 10.9%, and recreation and sports events - 9.3%.Rail fares rose 18.6%, municipal bus - 10.5% and air fares - 7.2%.Prices for audiovisual equipment rose 41.5%, jewelry and watches - 24.9%, new locally assembled cars - 22.9%, clothing and footwear - 10.6%, furniture and household items - 10.3% and pharmaceuticals - 8.6%.Firewood rose 15.4% in price, liquefied gas in cylinders - 10.2% and coal - 8.6%.Prices rose for potatoes - 59.3%, onions - - 25.1%, mineral and drinking water - 16.7%, tobacco products - - 14.6%, confectionery - - 13.3%, butter - -13%, nonalcoholic beverages - - 12.3%, processed and canned fish - -11.9% and fruit and vegetable juices - 11%.Prices fell for buckwheat - 21.6% and carrots - 5.3%.On a regional basis, inflation was above the national average in 12 regions, notably the city of Astana (11.2%) and Karaganda (9.9%), West Kazakhstan (9.7%) and North Kazakhstan (9.6%) regions.It is the National Bank’s goal to stabilize the inflation at around 5% in the midterm.
