Kosshy aims for 150,000 residents by 2038 with new master planThe city of Kosshy in the Akmola region is set for population growth, with a new master plan to reach 150,000 by 2038, according to Mayor Azamat Kapyshev during a working visit by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov.Originally designed for 30,000 residents, the city’s infrastructure required a rethink after gaining city status in 2021.The updated plan includes territorial expansion, revamped zoning, and modernized engineering and transport infrastructure. "Over 900 hectares will be allocated for individual housing, while 360 hectares are designated for multi-story apartment buildings," Kapyshev said.During the visit, the prime minister also reviewed the construction of a 350-bed multipurpose hospital and a polyclinic capable of handling 1,000 visits per shift. The facility, funded by private investments of over 28 billion tenge ($54.7 million), will feature German Siemens medical equipment and serve Kosshy and seven nearby districts. The outpatient clinic is set to open by the end of 2024, with the full hospital operational by 2026.The city’s population has surged from 24,000 to 42,000 in just two years, reflecting rapid urbanization. In August 2024, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev ordered upgrades to the city’s utilities and gas pipeline connections. Following its elevation to regional city status in 2021, Kosshy’s population reached 110,000, underscoring the need for sustained development. (ICE ALMATY)
