All mobile phones imported to Kazakhstan to be verified for legality from March 24The importers of mobile phones to Kazakhstan will be obligated starting from March 24 of this year to have all imported devices verified, which will include their registration in the database, according to the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and the Aerospace Industry.The Ministry made a live broadcast to announce changes in the rules for registration of mobile devices. The requirement for verification will apply to the importers of mobile devices to Kazakhstan," said Saule Temirkhan, a representative of the State Radio Frequency Service.In order to have the mobile device verified, the imported will need to enter all required information into the online database, a link to which will be provided after the order comes into force. Such information will include the model, brand, IMEI-code of the mobile phone and import details, she added.Those individuals who purchased their mobile phone abroad will also be required to have their mobile devices verified. To this end, they will need to state the date when they entered Kazakhstan.Once verified, the mobile devices will be included in the so-call “white list”, which is a register of mobile devices that have access to mobile services. Those devices that were included in the “black list” will be blocked.According to Dias Tolegenov, the head of the department for wireless communication projects at the Telecommunication Committee, there are as many as 3.7 million devices in Kazakhstan that duplicate IMEI codes.There will also be a “gray list” of mobile devices for which the mobile services will be restricted.
