Kazakh parliament adopts law on special status of Turkestan cityThe Senate, the upper chamber of Kazakhstan’s parliament, adopted on Thursday the Law on the Special Status of the City of Turkestan."The main objectives of the law are to create an effective system for management, preservation, maintenance of the historical and cultural monuments and historical and cultural heritage sites in the city of Turkestan, and to plan and manage archaeological and scientific restoration works at the Khoja Ahmed Yasawi mausoleum and its protected areas," said Bauyrzhan Kaniyev, a member of the parliament.The bill is now sent to the president of Kazakhstan for signature.
