Video surveillance system in Astana will be replaced with UAE’s AI-based Presignt systemAstana’s Sergek project, an intelligent surveillance system for public and road safety, will be replaced with a project designed by Presignt from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), said Didar Suleimanov, the head of the Astana digitalization and public services department."The Sergek project was launched in 2017, and the existing contract with Korkem Telecom expires on March 13 of this year. Following the president’s instruction and aiming to further develop the video surveillance system [in Astana], we have reached agreement with the international company Presignt, which is part of G42 holding, for the management of the Astana city infrastructure using its designed system, which is based on artificial intelligence (AI),” Suleimanov said at a Friday meeting of the Astana Maslikhat.Maslikhats in Kazakhstan are subnational government entities comprised of elected representatives of the local communities.The new project provides for the installation of 22,000 video surveillance cameras, 732 hardware and software complexes (HSC) at road crossings and 470 HSCs on the motor roads. There will also be a data processing center and a situational center for prompt response to any emergencies or accidents.The lifetime of the project is five years or until 2030. It is expected to ensure a 100% coverage of video surveillance in crowded places, and the use of AI will optimize traffic management, increase road safety and improve the operation of the city utility services."Investment by the private partner will amount to 53 billion tenge. The project will be fully financed from the private partner's own funds. Payments to the private investor won’t start until the final commissioning of the new system," Suleimanov said.The existing surveillance system Sergek was designed by Kazakhstan’s Sergek Group that has its own software and hardware specialists. Sergek Group, established in 2006, comprises Sergek Development, Sergek Project and Korkem Telecom. The company offers Smart City solutions for safety, transport and environmental projects.Presignt is part of G42, a company incorporated in the United Arab Emirates in 2018 and based in Abu Dhabi. G42 offers artificial intelligence solutions to governments, the healthcare, finance, oil and gas, aviation sectors and hotel businesses. (ICE ALMATY)
