BEER SALES ARE AT THEIR LOWEST POINT IN 20 YEARS. POLES ARE CHOOSING A SUBSTITUT portalspozywczy.pl
In 2024, Poles bought 100 million fewer bottles and cans of beer than in 2023. This is a decrease of 1.7%. The decline in sales of strong beer and alcoholic lagers is due to health-promoting social trends and demographics. The brewing industry remains also under the influence of the negative consequences of the crises of previous years, from the pandemic, through the war, to the most socially felt high inflation. As a result of the increase in costs and excise duty, beer prices have clearly gone up, affecting lower demand. Excise duty rates are currently 27% higher than in 2019, and will increase by another 10% by 2027.On the other hand, sales of non-alcoholic beer and flavoured mixes increased by 17.4%, which already accounts for over 7.5% of the beer market. The brewing industry accounts for 1% of Polish GDP (which in 2023 was equivalent to PLN 24 billion) and creates over 120,000 jobs in agriculture, trade and services.
