EU sanctions Kazakhstan's Kazstanex, MetallStanThe European Union has blacklisted two Kazakhstani companies as part of its 16th package of anti-Russian sanctions.According to the list, the two are Kazstanex, sanctioned by the United States last year, and MetallStan.Kazstanex, registered in Almaty, supplies machine and industrial equipment.MetallStan was registered in May 2012 and is engaged in "wholesale of a variety of goods without any particular specialization," according to open-source data. In 2023 the company paid 9.29 million tenge in tax; in 2024, 6.4 million tenge.Last October the U.S. Department of the Treasury sanctioned 275 individuals and organizations involved in supplying Russia with advanced equipment and technology. Kazstanex is participating in a scheme for buying machinery from Europe, according to data from the Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control. (ICE ALMATY)
