Kazakhstan secures EU approval for honey exportsKazakhstan has officially received approval to export honey to the European Union (EU), according to a statement from the country’s Ministry of Agriculture."The Republic of Kazakhstan has officially received approval to export honey to European Union countries. The relevant European Commission ruling was published on February 21, 2025," the statement said.The Ministry highlighted that the approval followed the implementation of a national monitoring plan for residual substances in honey, a key requirement for inclusion in the EU’s list of authorized exporting countries.The decision will take effect 20 days after its publication in the EU’s official journal. To meet EU standards, Kazakh exporters must provide guarantees of compliance with EU import regulations, including food safety systems like HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points).In 2024, Kazakhstan exported 603.7 tonnes of honey, with Uzbekistan being the largest recipient at 442 tonnes (73.2%), followed by Canada (54 tonnes, 8.9%), China (36.8 tonnes, 6.1%), Saudi Arabia (23 tonnes, 3.8%), Russia (21.1 tonnes, 3.5%), the United States (18.5 tonnes, 3.1%), and other countries (8.3 tonnes, 1.4%). Meanwhile, Kazakhstan imported 1,657.3 tonnes of honey, predominantly from Russia (1,621.9 tonnes, 97.9%), as well as Germany (21 tonnes, 1.3%), China (7.1 tonnes, 0.4%), and other countries (7.3 tonnes, 0.4%).The majority of Kazakhstan’s honey production is concentrated in regions such as East Kazakhstan, Pavlodar, Abai, Almaty, Turkestan, and Zhetysu.
