Caspi Bitum to reach 750,000 tonnes capacity in April 2025The completion of the project to expand the production capacity of the Caspi Bitum plant in Aktau is scheduled for April 2025, said Deputy CEO of NC KazMunayGas (KMG) Kurmangazy Iskaziyev."In order to supply the domestic market with bitumen, construction work has begun on the project to expand the capacity of the bitumen plant in Aktau - CaspiBitum from 500,000 to 750,000 tonnes with completion in April 2025," Iskaziyev said at a board meeting of the Ministry of Energy on Wednesday.Previously, the project was planned to be completed by the end of 2024, then it was reported that the launch of the project was postponed to the beginning of 2025 - before the start of the road construction season.JV Caspi Bitum LLP was established by KazMunayGas and CITIC Kazakhstan LLP on a parity basis. The plant, the largest producer of road bitumen in Central Asia, was built in Aktau in 2010-2013 and has been in operation since December 2013. The plant's raw material is oil from the fields of Karazhanbasmunai JSC.In October 2023, during the visit of the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to China, an agreement was signed between KMG and CITIC Group for the implementation of the Caspi Bitumen Expansion Project in 2024-2025, which will fully supply the domestic market with bitumen.In January 2024, KMG signed an agreement with national road operator KazAvtoZhol JSC to supply the domestic market with road bitumen.In addition to the Aktau plant, bitumen is also produced at Pavlodar Oil and Chemistry Refinery and two other private plants.
