Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Defense announces modernization of military institutes into academiesKazakhstan’s Ministry of Defense has unveiled plans to upgrade three military institutes into military academies."The Sagadat Nurmagambetov Military Institute of Ground Forces, the Talgat Begeldinov Military Institute of Air Defense Forces, and the Military Engineering Institute of Radioelectronics and Communications will undergo modernization to achieve this transformation," according to Murat Olzhabayev, head of the department of military education and science.Speaking at a briefing in Astana, Olzhabayev emphasized that while no new higher military institutions are planned, two new military colleges will be established under the Zhas Ulan schools in Almaty and Karaganda. These colleges will focus on training future military personnel in specialized fields, with the first intake of students expected this year.In addition, three existing military colleges in Astana, Shchuchinsk, and Shymkent will continue to provide technical and vocational education, primarily for training professional sergeants. These institutions cater to various military branches, including motorized rifle, tank, artillery, engineering, communications, and military equipment maintenance units. (ICE ALMATY)
