ASSOCIATIONS TAKE CHARGE OF JORDAN VALLEY WATER MANAGEMENT

The Jordan Valley Authority (JVA) on Saturday signed six agreements assigning Jordan Valley water management to the Water User Associations."The agreements include shifting water distribution tasks to 6 coalitions, grouping 18 associations, covering more than 52 percent of the irrigated Jordan Valley area, with the aim of improving water management efficiency, reducing water loss, and preserving irrigation infrastructure," the JVA said in a statement.JVA Secretary General Hisham Al-Haisa spoke of the importance of regular evaluation of the associations' performance, using clear indicators to ensure better efficiency of water management and services to farmers.The JVA will provide technical and administrative support to the associations, he pledged, calling for proposals to improve performance and upgrade services, given current climate challenges.Water User Associations currently total 24, covering more than 78 percent of irrigated Jordan Valley farmlands.
