KAZAKHSTAN-AZERBAIJAN-FOCL-AGREEMENT
Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan ink agreement for Caspian Sea fiber-optic communication line engineering and constructionKazakhstan and Azerbaijan have signed a document for engineering and construction of a submarine fiber-optic communication line (FOCL), the press service of Kazakhstan’s government said in a Monday press release.The document was signed during the official visit of Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov to Baku, he held a meeting with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Ali Asadov."Following the meetings, the side signed a number of bilateral documents, including a document on the engineering and construction of a submarine fiber-optic communication line to link Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. The project is of strategic importance as it is aimed at improving the quality and reliability of communications and increasing data transmission between Asia and Europe," the press release says.In June 2023, Kazakhtelecom and AzerTelecom signed an agreement to establish on a parity basis a joint venture, Caspinet B.V., which will oversee the construction and operation of the Trans-Caspian optical fiber line connecting Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. The total investment in the project exceeds 23 billion tenge, with the undersea cable line expected to stretch 370 kilometers and provide speeds of up to 400 terabits per second.Kazakhtelecom JSC is the leading communication operator in Kazakhstan holding a dominant position on the domestic market of telecommunication services.AzerTelecom, part of NEQSOL Holding, is the leading communication operator in Azerbaijan.
