THE PET FOOD MARKET IS GROWING
According to estimates by experts from the European Pet Food Association (FEDIAF), there are already 8 million dogs and 7 million cats living in Poland. A million more have been added in five years. Data from the YouGov platform show that the pet food market is also growing. In 2024, its value exceeded PLN 4.9 billion, which means a 10 percent increase year on year.According to the Secretary General of the Polish Association of Pet Food Producers Polkarma, in Poland - as in the whole of Europe - we see a trend of humanisation of pets and a trend of replacing having children with having pets.As a result of both of these trends, Poles are spending more and more money on their pets. It is becoming more and more common to feed ready-made, safe and high-quality food instead of leftovers. The dynamics of the dog and cat food market are also influenced by inflation and the diversification of distribution channels. Retail chains are increasingly expanding their offer for pet owners, which drives competition and at the same time increases the availability of products. What's more, after the COVID-19 pandemic, we are seeing the rapid development of e-commerce and specialist online pet stores. (ICE VARSAVIA)
