First container train from India to Kazakhstan launched by KTZ and Central Asian partnersA subsidiary of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), in partnership with companies from Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, has launched the first container train from India to Kazakhstan, the company announced."The train, operated by KTZ’s subsidiary Kedentransservice, alongside Uzbekistan’s Uztemiryulkonteyner and Turkmenistan’s TLCT, is carrying 12 twenty-foot containers of ceramic tiles from the port of Mundra in India to the Sorokovaya station in Astana, Kazakhstan," according to the statement.The journey covers 1,585 kilometers by sea and 4,300 kilometers by rail, passing through Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan. "The delivery is expected to take around 25 to 30 days, depending on how busy Iran’s Bandar Abbas port is at the time," the statement added.This shipment is part of ongoing efforts to expand container services along the eastern route of the North-South Transport Corridor. "This corridor significantly reduces delivery times, cuts transportation costs, and creates new opportunities for exporters and importers in participating countries," KTZ said.The International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) links Northern Europe with the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean regions via Russia, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. Launched in 2000 through an agreement between Russia, Iran, and India, the corridor now includes 12 countries. It features three main routes: the western route along the Caspian Sea’s western shore, the eastern route along its eastern shore, and the trans-Caspian route across the Caspian Sea.Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, a transport and logistics company under the Samruk-Kazyna sovereign wealth fund, oversees railway, seaport, airport infrastructure, and transport-logistics centers across Kazakhstan.
