SINARMAS, KOREAN INVESTOR KICKSTART $300M DATA CENTER PROJECT
Joint venture between local conglomerate Sinar Mas and a South Korean investor commenced construction of a US$300 million [Rp 4.9 trillion] data center project that is set to be completed in the second half of 2026. The artificial intelligence-ready data center project, dubbed SMX01, is set to operate in Jakarta’s central business district (CBD) with an initial 18-megawatt (MW) load capacity that can be increased up to 60 MW. Sinar Mas, through its digital infrastructure and services company SM+, announced the project in September last year by working together with Korea Investment Real Asset Management (KIRA). The project will also involve a joint venture between LG and Sinar Mas that will act as the technology advisor and operator because of its experience in operating and developing over 600 MW of total data center capacity in South Korea. SMX01 is constructed on 15,500 square meters of data hall white space, supporting nearly 2,400 racks across nine data halls. Each data hall can accommodate up to 340 racks for various data center demands, including enterprise colocation, high-density hyperscale deployments and emerging workloads such as AI and machine learning applications.Source : https://www.thejakartapost.com/business/2025/03/06/sinarmas-korean-investor-kickstart-300m-data-center-project-eye-completion-in-h2-2026.html (ICE GIACARTA)
