INDONESIA TEAMS UP WITH WWF TO PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE FISHERIES
Indonesia's Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries has partnered with WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) Indonesia to enhance the competitiveness of marine and fishery products while increasing public awareness of sustainable fisheries. The collaboration focuses on improving market access, compliance with international standards, and promoting responsible consumer behavior. Key initiatives include meeting US Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) standards, developing traceable and sustainable fishery practices, providing capacity-building for small-scale fishery businesses, and supporting sustainable livelihoods for fishermen. The agreement, valid from 2025 to 2030, aims to position Indonesian fishery products as globally recognized, high-quality, and sustainable."This collaboration is in line with the government's vision to encourage a sustainable and competitive fishery industry," the ministry's Director General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine and Fishery Products, Budi Sulistiyo, said in a statement on Sunday (09/03/2025).
