KAZAKHSTAN-MICROELECTRONICS-PRODUCTION
Kazakhstan to launch pre-industrial production of chip systems by June 2025Kazakhstan is set to launch pre-industrial production of domestic chip systems (System-on-a-Chip, SoC) by June 2025, with the startup VR UniBlock leading the initiative, according to the press service of the government. The project aims to develop next-generation wireless systems with minimal data transmission delays, which are crucial for AI, autonomous vehicles, and XR technologies. At a government meeting, VR UniBlock’s leader, Abylay Sargskayev, presented the project to Prime Minister Olzhas Bektanov. "There are plans to deliver the first FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array – a type of programmable integrated circuit) test kits by spring 2025. The pre-industrial production of SoC (System-on-a-Chip – an electronic circuit that performs the functions of an entire device) is set to begin by June 2025," he said. The company already holds seven patents and is working on a strategic partnership with U.S. microchip manufacturer AMD/Xilinx.To advance microelectronics in Kazakhstan, Sargaskaev highlighted the need for specialized equipment, laboratories, and skilled personnel. Bektanov has directed measures to support electronics localization, including equipping laboratories and establishing a technological base for microelectronics. (ICE ALMATY)
